Brief description of the organisation's work: RNIB Redhill College offers education and training for visually impaired students, including those with additional disabilities, with a holistic approach to learning. The college caters for adults and young people. Programmes are normally delivered over a 1 to 3 year period and are individually tailored to meet the needs of its students in all areas, physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally. Thus the aim of the college is to empower its students to achieve maximum personal independence. RNIB Redhill being a specialist college differs from its mainstream competitors in the products and services it offers. With the myriad forms and varying degrees of disabilities of its students it offers a wide range of programmes, within its curriculum. These programmes are tailored to meet individual need. By providing a holistic approach to learning, it is able to cover all areas, both in education and personal development. Students are encouraged to reach their own levels of independence. The aim for some students is to acquire a qualification as a means to further education or employment. For others emphasis is placed on independence training and possible qualification to achieve their maximum potential. Life skills, Pre-vocational and vocational programmes are offered, these include Administration, IT, Accounting, Radio Broadcasting, Sound recording, Music and Performing Arts, Arts & Craft, Horticulture and Sports/Leisure. Work experience either locally or in the student's home area is a very important part of the course. These are all delivered by specialist teaching staff using a range of specialist equipment and software packages to individual student's need. |
